What’s Your Story???

Our stories shape us. We carry them with us. They make us who we are.

Some stories are full of hope and life. Others are filled with pain and half truths. All of them impact us and how we interact with the world.

Hi, I’m Sara and I am so delighted that you found our corner of the world. I want to share how Called to Connection came to be. This has been growing over the course of my life. It included many states, several individuals, and lots of hard work on my part and the part of so many others.

If you ask my parents the story of my birth, they will tell you that I was not expected to survive the night. While it is a cool story for others to hear, it became a heavy burden for me. I believed that if I was spared death, that I had to make something incredible of my life. That is quite a story to live up to right?

My story has shaped my entire life, from my family, to my faith, to my philanthropy, to my career as a counselor. While I am abundantly grateful for all of it, I have always felt like God was calling me for more.

Hi, I’m Debbie. At a very early age, I experienced significant trauma, and my parents, those who should protect me, were unaware and thus unable to help me. This shaped my entire life and the choices that I made. The most significant part of this is how these experiences made me feel unworthy and unwanted.

Over the years, through the support of therapy, journaling, and prayer, I have been able to heal and understand God’s grace and plan for my life. Just as our stories are not over, life is a journey, and I am continuing to grow and learn more about myself and how God sees me. Last year, God began speaking to me, and telling me that I need to take what I have learned and use it to help other women to experience all that God has for them.

In 2015, Sara met Debbie in a small town in rural Kansas. We didn’t hit it off right away, but thank goodness, we were patient, persistent, and determined to be authentic with one another. We’ll tell you more about our rocky road to where we are today at the event, but rest assured that today, we are deep and close friends.

In early 2023, I (Sara) had a tugging on my heart that it was time to do something different. I began dreaming about how it would bless others to share my heart. It was through the help of many trusted friends who pushed me to answer that call. They prayed, they let me bounce ideas off of them, they tolerated my ever changing stream of ideas, they even let me white board it!

After months of prayer and soul searching, we shared our separate dreams and realized that God was bringing us together in a shared dream. And it was through this that Called to Connection was born.

We all want to be seen, loved and accepted, don’t we? Because to be loved but not known is inauthentic. To be known but not loved, is devastating. To be known and loved is euphoric. It is also Godly. And that is how our theme of Divinely Known came to be. We will dive deep into our identity, why we are here, and what we bring to the table, because each one of us has a purpose.

We are booking events for this fall and would love to come to your church, home, or office, and pour into the beautiful women in your community.
